Danny Schur: Composer/Lyricist/Co-Writer/Producer
Dubbed "Canada's Andrew Lloyd Webber," Danny Schur is Winnipeg, Canada's most successful composer/producer of original musicals. Having made his name as a Juno Award-winning composer/producer (Chantal Kreviazuk, Doc Walker), Danny turned his sights on his true passion: original musical theatre. His musical The Bridge was Winnipeg's first large-cast commercial musical. Strike! earned Danny and co-writer, Rick Chafe, the 2006 Kobzar Literary Award, the 2007 Grant MacEwan College Kostash Award and the 2008 Roger Charest Award. The pair have written the screenplay adaptation of Strike! and Danny is co-producing the feature film adaptation, scheduled to shoot in Winnipeg in 2011.

Rick Chafe’s plays include Shakespeare’s Dog (MTC/National Arts Centre and Alberta Theatre Projects), The Odyssey (Shakespeare in the Ruins and Two Planks and a Passion Theatre), and The Last Man and Woman on Earth (Theatre Projects Manitoba). The Secret Mask, commissioned by PTE, was read at this spring’s Carol Shields Festival of New Works, and a new play inspired by Beowulf, commissioned by Two Planks and a Passion is being workshopped in Nova Scotia this August.
 


Ann Hodges:  Director
Ann Hodges: Director
Ann Hodges is a Winnipeg-based theatre and opera director. A graduate of the National Theatre School, Ann's credits include Prairie Theatre Exchange, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Neptune Theatre, Shaw Festival, Persephone Theatre, Vancouver Opera, Manitoba Opera, Opera Lyra, and Pacific Opera Victoria. Ann also writes opera libretti, including Vancouver Opera's acclaimed Naomi's Road. Career highlights include directing 1,000 performers as Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremonies of the North American Indigenous Games, and participating in a directing workshop with Peter Brook at England's National Theatre. Ann has been affiliated with Strike! since its first draft, through two workshops and into full productions in Winnipeg and Saskatoon.
 


Deborah Buck:  Music Director
Deborah Buck: Music Director
Deborah is a Saskatoon music director, actor and pianist. She couldn’t be more pleased to come to Winnipeg, the home of Strike!, after her wonderful experience as music director of the 2006 Saskatoon production. Deborah's musical direction earned her a Saskatoon Area Theatre Award for her work in Persephone Theatre’s Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story and Beauty and the Beast. She has worked at the Globe in Regina, Dancing Sky Theatre in Meacham, the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival, and Rosebud Theatre, where she was the 2008 Harvey Artist in Residence. Deborah has been Saskatchewan’s official accompanist at the National Music Festival and was recorded in recital for CBC Radio Saskatchewan. She sings and tours extensively with the Canadian Chamber Choir.
 


Brenda Gorlick:  Choreographer
Brenda Gorlick: Choreographer
Brenda Gorlick has been a performer, choreographer, and director for over 35 years. Highlights include: West Side Story (Banff Centre), Guys & Dolls (Stratford), A Year with Frog and Toad (Manitoba Theatre for Young People), The Producers (Manitoba Theatre Centre), Urinetown (Dry Cold Productions), Carmen (Manitoba Opera), Funny Girl (Wpg. Jewish Theatre), Altar Boyz (Fringe '09), Opening and Closing Ceremonies (Pan Am Games). Brenda is a four-time Strike! veteran (Winnipeg & Saskatoon) and the Artistic Director of Brenda Gorlick's Young Stars which recently performed in Disneyworld. Upcoming: Winnipeg Studio Theatre/Studio 16's production of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Fringe 2010) and choreographer for Cercle Moliere's new theatre inaugural performance. David Hewlett:  Set Designer
David Hewlett: Set Designer
David has been actively designing for the stage in Winnipeg and across the country for many years. Currently, he's a Professor in the Theatre/Film Department at the University of Winnipeg with additional teaching and professional career vocations for costuming, lighting and makeup. David earned degrees in Arts, Architecture (Manitoba) and an MFA in design from the University of Alberta. His most recent design credits include Othello for SIR, Strike! 2010 summer production and abridged outdoor version, Dr. Faustus for the U of W Theatre Department, and set design and mentoring of Anne Frank for the U of W. When not designing theatre or architecture projects, David and his wife Susan fill the rest of the time parenting their sons Dylan, Sean and Michael.
 


Scott Henderson:  Lighting Designer
Scott Henderson: Lighting Designer
Scott is excited to be once again involved with Strike!, having lit last year’s production and the world première in 2005. Based in Winnipeg, Scott has lit more than 130 dance, opera, theatre and musical theatre productions from Ottawa to Victoria. Recent work includes Rent for Rainbow Stage, The Light in the Piazza for Dry Cold Productions and Steel Magnolias for Manitoba Theatre Centre. Scott is a member of The Associated Designers of Canada and a graduate of Ryerson Theatre School. Special thanks to Karen, Sean and Alex for their love and support.
 


Benjamin Ross:  Assistant Lighting Designer
Benjamin Ross: Assistant Lighting Designer
Benjamin Ross has been the head lighting technician at Manitoba Theatre Centre since 1999 and has been the production manager and lighting designer for the Chai Folk Ensemble. Benjamin designed lighting for the Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys national tour, the Brian Glow southeast Asia tour, as well as Grant Park, Churchill and Sisler High Schools. Benjamin is a member of IATSE Local 63 and lives in St. Andrews with his family and herd of animals.
 


Michelle Lagassé:  Stage Manager
Michelle Lagassé: Stage Manager
Michelle is excited to be part of the second annual Strike! summer production, having ASM'd the 2009 production. She has stage managed and assistant stage managed for all the theatres in Winnipeg as well as at the Globe, Citadel, Theatre Calgary, GCTC and the Shaw Festival. Her last project was coordinating the Carol Shields Festival of New Works at Prairie Theatre Exchange in Winnipeg. Up next is stage managing Lenin's Embalmers for Winnipeg Jewish Theatre.
 


Gail Henderson Brown:  Assistant Stage Manager
Gail Henderson Brown: Assistant Stage Manager
Gail is excited to join the Strike! team. She has been an Assistant Stage Manager for MTC's productions of Pride and Prejudice and Dreamgirls and, as a Stage Manager, she toured Manitoba twice with PTE's Theatre for Young Audiences presentations of Robert Munsch stories. She did apprentice work with Rainbow Stage in Chicago and Manitoba Opera's production of the Marriage of Figaro. When not involved in theatre, Gail enjoys teaching swimming and water safety to all ages. Special thanks to Peter and her friends for their continued support.
